Set in the winter of 1820, a New England whaling ship, Essex, is attacked by a monstrous whale far bigger than ever seen before. Driven by vengeance, the whale cripples the ship, leaving the crew fighting for its life. The ship’s inexperienced captain must lead his crew back to safety, while his first mate, Owen Chase (Hemsworth), seeks to defeat the whale.
The Blu-ray will come with a handful of extras, including a look at the life of a whaler, deleted and extended scenes, and a number of documentaries.
