With Ultra HD Blu-ray, you’ll experience a sharper, clearer image than ever before; a greater range of brighter, more vivid colors; smoother, more realistic motion and uncompressed, immersive surround sound. And don’t worry about your existing disc collection – your Ultra HD Blu-ray player will also play all of your existing Blu-ray Discs and most Ultra HD Blu-ray players will also play DVDs.
Ultra HD Blu-ray content is also commonly marketed as 4K UHD.

A GREATER RANGE OF COLORS
Ultra HD Blu-ray supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) video. Dynamic range is the difference between the brightest whites and the darkest blacks on screen. HDR means that scenes with high contrast can be shown with much greater clarity and detail – use the slider on the below image to compare HDR with SDR.

BRIGHTER, MORE VIVID COLORS
Ultra HD Blu-ray can also display over 75% of the visible color spectrum. This is known as Wider Color Spectrum. That’s more than twice the color range of current digital TVs.

Ultra HD Blu-ray supports progressive frame rates of 24, 25, 50 and 60 frames a second, enabling smoother, more realistic motion.

ULTRA HD BLU-RAY PLAYERS WILL PLAY ALL CURRENT BLU-RAY DISC CONTENT
Ultra HD Blu-ray players will play all current Blu-ray Disc content. When connected to a current HDTV television, the player will output a standard HD signal. Ultra HD Blu-ray players will support existing Blu-ray media, as well as provide down conversion and HDR to SDR conversion functionality to match the connected television’s capabilities.
