With The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner, hitting the big screen in the next few weeks across Europe, we thought we’d suggest some spy thrillers to get you in the mood … we can hardly wait!
The Ultimate Bourne Collection
Naturally, we can’t talk about the Bourne Legacy without mentioning the trilogy that started it, so the Ultimate Bourne Collection has to be in this list. Containing all three of the Matt Damon Bourne films (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum), this high-definition boxed set tells the story of Jason Bourne, a top-secret US government asset with amnesia, and his struggle to find the truth.
These genre defining films take you on a roaring adventure, filled with intrigue, romance and explosive action – the perfect way to prepare for the follow-up.
Slowing the pace slightly, we have the 2011 Blu-ray edition of John Le Carré’s 1973 Cold War espionage novel, which follows the story of George Smiley, a former secret service agent drafted in to find the Russian leak in MI5 and MI6. In this tense spy story, Smiley slowly unravels international espionage secrets at the same time as unearthing personal demons of his own.
This high-definition version of a corking ensemble piece, starring Gary Oldman, John Hurt, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, among others, is guaranteed to leave you glued to your screen.
James Bond’s most recent outing is a gutsy affair. In a tale of love, revenge and absolution, Bond does what he does best – uncovers a secret organisation which is threatening the balance of world power and stops their plot in its tracks. Daniel Craig’s Bond is unrelenting in his aggression and passion, with fight scenes often reminiscent of the Bourne cinematography.
In superb 1080p high-definition resolution, this is top-notch home entertainment. If this Blu-ray doesn’t leave you in the mood for more action, nothing will.
