The best budget Blu-ray players

Christmas is the ideal time to give (or receive!) Blu-ray related gifts, and for those yet to invest in a Blu-ray player it’s a great chance to join the high definition revolution. And the good news is that players are more affordable than ever, and with this is mind, UK site IT Pro Portal has put together a list of five Blu-ray players that can be picked up for under £50. So if you’re after a bargain buy – perhaps a second Blu-ray player for the bedroom or a gift for the uninitiated – here are those that IT Pro Portal recommended:

  • Bush BD-8210: Smaller than half a ream of A4 paper, this Bush model has all the basic features you need from a first BD player
  • Sony BDPS185B: In addition to basic playback features, this player also includes DVD upscaling technology and access to online content via the Sony Entertainment Network
  • Philips BDP3200: This model from Philips includes DLNA compatibility for streaming other media, and a USB port for playing other formats such as MPEG-4 or DivX Plus HD
  • LG BP125: Available widely for £50, this LG model includes a quick start-up mode which gets a disc ready to play in just 15 seconds
  • Panasonic DMP-BD75: Slightly larger than the other recommended models, this player also includes DLNA support and a USB port
