To celebrate its landmark 25th anniversary, CBS has unveiled plans to re-release Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-ray Disc in July.
Fans of the galaxy series can look forward to the highest possible quality transfer because CBS has re-edited each episode precisely as it was aired from the original film negatives, rather than up-converting the visual effects from videotape. Visual effects have also been given a polish to take them into the HD era. Followers of the show may also be interested to know that respected Star Trek aficionados Denise and Michael Okuda have worked as consultants on the project too.
Executive Vice President of CBS Entertainment, Ken Ross said of the project recently:
“Fans have been clamouring for a high-definition release of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Transferring the series to high-definition presented difficult technical challenges, but our team has come up with a process to create true 1080p HD masters with true HD visual effects. We can’t wait to show fans how pristine the series looks and sounds.”
