Released in the same year as Bond’s 50th anniversary, Oscar and BAFTA winning Skyfall last week became the UK’s fastest selling Blu-ray title of all-time.
According to the Official Charts Company, in its first week on sale, Skyfall accounted for almost 45% of all Blu-rays and DVDs sold in the UK, and scored the biggest first week total of any Blu-ray of all-time with 544,000 copies. Despite only being out for one week, Skyfall is already the third biggest selling Blu-ray of all time too, behind Avatar and Inception.
“James Bond has set many records in his 50 years of adventures – but Skyfall’s DVD/Blu-ray launch last week was truly phenomenal, with almost 2 million copies sold in the UK,” said Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts Company. “In recording this massive total, it also scored the biggest Blu-ray first week of all time. To put it in context, one in two of all the DVD/Blu-rays bought in the UK last week were Skyfall. A quite remarkable performance.”
