Rio given a rapturous review on Blu-ray

According to a review by Animation World Network, the Blu-ray Disc release of animated parrot adventure Rio really is a sight to behold. Available throughout Europe from 24th October, the CGI extravaganza stars the vocal talents of Jessie Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and Jamie Foxx.

A classic tale of self-discovery, travel and romance our story centres on Blu (Eisenberg), a flightless macaw who returns to his native Rio after years of sleepy days in a small Minnesota town.

Viewers have come to expect nothing but the best from animation pictures these days, so does Rio live up to the heights scaled by Toy Story or Shrek? Animation World Network says:

‘There is no doubt the quality of this Blu-ray release… the vibrant colour palette just radiates. The picture is gorgeous with detail. You can make out the individual feathers on these CG birds, even in lively action sequences in lush jungles. I was thoroughly impressed.’

What about the special features on offer?

‘The most impressive was ‘Saving the Species: One Voice at a Time.’ The actors talk about what they brought to their characters and director Carlos Saldanha gives his thoughts behind the casting choices. But the most intriguing part is talking with the animators about how they took the voice performances and created the characters from them.’

Alongside tours of real life locations that inspired the film, viewers can also look forward to features that delve into the musical collaborations in the movie, the rich history of Brazilian culture, carnival choreography and BD-Live extras.

Tempted? We certainly are! Check out Animation World Network for the full review.
