Hailed by many as the scariest film of all time, Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece Psycho is re-released as a 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray disc this week.

Gripping and irrevocably gruesome, the Blu-ray Disc release is set to unsettle audiences everywhere with its sharp re-mastered rendering of the crisply shot B&W original. Composer Bernard Herrmann’s score has also been remastered, giving the film a 5.1 channel soundtrack for the first time and reigniting people’s fears of hotel showers everywhere.

This disc contains all of the extras (and there are a lot of them) from the earlier special edition DVDs. Also Laurent Bouzereau’s feature-length documentary explores the film’s genesis, production and impact from all angles and includes input from its writers, technicians and star Janet Leigh.

The music, the setting, the shower scene, the mother… everything about this iconic film has passed into cinema history and short of staying the night at the Bates Motel yourself, this is the closest you’ll get to experiencing Psycho in its grandest form.
