This week is a bumper week for Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray releases, with plenty of new films hitting the shelves.
First up is Oblivion (Ultra HD Blu-ray), the sci-fi blockbuster starring Tom Cruise as ex-soldier Jack Harper, who works on a battle-scarred future Earth. After humanity is forced to live high above the clouds following an alien attack, it soon becomes clear to Jack that things may not be as straightforward as they were previously told. Also out this week is Warcraft: The Beginning (Ultra HD Blu-ray), the film based on the popular fantasy game, directed by Duncan Jones, the son of the late David Bowie. The movie tells the story of how the peaceful realm of Azeroth must stand together after a magical portal opens, allowing an army of invading orcs through.
Star Trek fans: this is a big week for you! Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness and Star Trek: Beyond all land on Ultra HD Blu-ray on Monday. The relaunch of the franchise, starring Chris Pine, Zachery Quinto and Simon Pegg, sees the U.S.S. Enterprise reinvented, embarking on three brand new adventures.
Back on Planet Earth, Everest (Ultra HD) is also released. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and Sam Worthington, Everest tells the true story of the 1996 Mount Everest climbing expedition in which two groups of climbers encountered one of the worst storms in history.
Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster and Eric Bana team up with director Peter Berg in Lone Survivor (Ultra HD), an epic war film about a group of soldiers fighting the Taliban, who have a huge moral decision to make. Lucy (Ultra HD) also lands this week, starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, which tells the story of an abused drug smuggler who finds herself with superhuman powers.
Finally, Inferno (Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray) is released this week. Tom Hanks returns as Harvard Professor-cum-action hero Robert Langdon, who is once again forced to use his deep knowledge of history and symbolism to get himself out of a deadly bind.
