Lawrence of Arabia gets official Blu-ray date

The 50th anniversary of Lawrence of Arabia sees the digitally restored high-definition director’s cut of the timeless classic heading to Blu-ray in the UK on 10th September, with European releases to follow.

This award-winning, all-time classic has been painstakingly restored from the original 50 year old camera negatives and is brought to life in eye-popping 1080p resolution.

With legendary performances from Peter O’Toole, Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins and Omar Sharif, Lawrence of Arabia retells the true story of the struggles of T.E. Lawrence in uniting Arab factions to defeat the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.

Grover Crisp, EVP of Asset Management, Film Restoration and Digital Mastering for Sony Pictures Entertainment, said: “We wanted to return this film to as pristine a condition as possible to honor its anniversary release. The original negative was seriously damaged in a number of ways, some problems dating from the original release and some accumulated over the years. But, until now, we did not have the tools available to address these issues. We think fans of the film will be as amazed as we are at the detail and resolution in the imagery captured by cinematographer Freddie Young to compliment David Lean’s immaculate direction.”

Regarded as a seminal piece of cinema, this will be a must have in any film lover’s Blu-ray collection. See Blu-rayDefinition for more information.
