With a glittering cast, unparalleled box office success and countless award nominations, Les Misérables is already set to be one of this year’s most anticipated Blu-ray Discs. While an exact European launch date is still to be confirmed, an exciting host of exclusive Blu-ray features has been unveiled by Universal Pictures, including behind the scenes footage with the cast.
Digitally mastered in 1080p, the Blu-ray will show the epic production on a scale like never before. The musical follows the tale of Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) as he is doggedly hunted by self-righteous policeman Javert (Crowe) through fifteen years of instability, famine and disease in 19th Century France.
The Blu-ray version will include exclusive featurettes to show the stories behind the songs. The Les Misérables Singing Live featurette includes interviews with the cast to discuss how the daunting challenge of live performance ultimately gave them the creative freedom to deliver nuanced, emotionally powerful performances. The Battle at the Barricade and Les Misérables on Location featurettes review the challenges of adapting the musical off stage and onto a set whilst maintaining the intensity of the original production. The West End Connection allows fans to meet the “godfather” of the original West End production, Cameron Mackintosh, who was deeply involved in the filming, as well as former stars of the stage version who were thrilled to appear in supporting roles.
We’ll be keeping a lookout for a European release date, but in the meantime head over to Blu-ray.com for more information.
