Total Recall, starring Colin Farrell, is one of the biggest movie remakes of this year, drawing on the much loved 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger original. With the 2012 remake hitting cinemas next week, here’s a few other famous remakes, available now on Blu-ray, to whet your appetite.
Following the storming success of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, director Peter Jackson decided to embark on recreating his favourite film from childhood, King Kong. Following a similar plot to the 1933 original, King Kong follows the exploration of Skull Island, capture of the giant gorilla and his ill-fated journey to New York.
Having won Academy Awards for its visual effects and sound, you can be assured that this is a real treat for the senses on high-definition Blu-ray Disc.
Based on the 1960 Rat Pack film of the same name, Ocean’s Eleven follows the story of professional criminals Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) who plot to perform an unprecedented Las Vegas heist. Assembling a team of expert criminals with stars including Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and Bernie Mac, as well as a supporting cast including Andy Garcia and Julia Roberts, you know you’re in for a ride in eye-popping high-definition.
Although not strictly a remake, Daniel Craig’s first outing as Bond certainly deserves a mention in this list. Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale story was originally shot as a comedy, starring Peter Sellers and David Niven, in 1967, but it wasn’t until 2006 that the book got the straight-laced ‘official’ Bond treatment. Set as Bond’s first assignment and rebooting the franchise, Casino Royale follows Bond’s mission to stop terrorist financier Le Chiffre. With high-intensity action sequences and tense high-stakes poker games, it’s a classic bit of Bond and fantastic addition to anyone’s Blu-ray collection.
