Blu-rays for the Weekend: The Girl on the Train

Based on one of 2015’s bestselling books by the same name, The Girl on the Train is a psychological thriller starring Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux and Luke Evans.

It tells the story of Rachel Watson (Blunt), a divorced alcoholic who is stuck in a rut. After splitting with her two-timing husband Tom (Theroux), she begins fantasizing about the life of a couple she sees everyday while commuting. However, during her routine commute, things take a sinister turn after she sees something life-changing.

To get you in the mood, we’ve picked our three favourite psychological thrillers available now on Blu-ray.

Gone Girl

Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris star in this psgone-girlychological rollercoaster about a man whose wife goes missing in mysterious circumstances.

Nick Dunne (Affleck) reports his wife missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. After initially appearing as the grieving husband, Dunne is soon put under both the police and media spotlight, and the image of a worried, loving husband soon begins to crack. Lies and deceit take centre stage, and the world soon begins to ask the same terrifying question: is Nick Dunne responsible for the disappearance of his wife?

The Blu-ray comes with audio commentary by director David Fincher, who talks through the making-of the film, and the challenges he had to overcome during production.

Seven

Also from director David Fincher, Seven tells the terrifyin  seveng story of two homicide detectives, who begin a hunt to track down a sinister serial killer.

Starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as Detectives Mills and Somerset, who set off on the dark path of a serial killer, who chooses his victims based on their ignorance of the bible’s seven deadly sins. As the killings become more and more gruesome, the detectives try to get one step ahead, but soon find that they’re playing right into his hands.

The Blu-ray comes with a number of supplements, including four in-depth audio commentary tracks, still photography, behind-the-scenes documentaries and additional footage.

10 Cloverfield Lane

The latest cerebral drama from producer J.J. Abrams – 10 Cloverfield Lane – stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr.10-cloverfield

It tells the story of Michelle, who wakes up in an underground bunker with a stranger who claims to have saved her life, following a world-ending chemical incident which has devastated humanity. With only his word to go on, Michelle doubts the story, believing her saviour may actually be her captor. Not sure what to believe, Michelle plots her escape, no matter what the danger…

The Blu-ray comes with some excellent special features, including audio commentary, interviews with the cast and crew, a look at the design of the film’s bunker location, and insight into the costume design.
