Blu-rays for the Weekend: The Avengers Prequels

After the recent release of the film’s trailer, it seems the whole world is now waiting with baited breath for the latest news from Marvel on The Avengers, due in cinemas this summer. So this week we’re focusing on the prequel films that feature all the individual superhero members of the Avengers team. So if you’re stuck for ideas this weekend, why not try out one of the following:

Iron Man 1 & 2

Kicking us off in spectacular style is the one and only Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, played to perfection by Robert Downey Jr. An enigmatic heir to the Stark Enterprises fortune, Tony is an arrogant inventor by day who commands a global weapons empire. By night he uses the futuristic technology to fight crime and save the planet in suitably flashy style. Special features on the Blu-ray box set of the first and second Iron Man movies include a look at the weaponry, concept art, costumes, deleted scenes and plenty of interviews with the stellar cast and crew.

Captain America: The First Avenger (available in 2D or 3D)

The Blu-ray release of Captain America will bring you closer than ever to one of Marvel’s greatest superheroes. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a sickly soldier from Brooklyn, transformed into super warrior Captain America in an effort to aid the American army against Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) and Adolf Hitler’s campaign for world domination. The Blu-ray greets fans with an impressive bunch of bonus features including a look at the spectacular set design, the mind blowing special effects which transform Evans’ body double into Captain America and Weaving into Red Skull. It also boasts cast and crew interviews and a look at the cars, motorcycles, tanks, submarines and guns in the film. Tempted? You can check out the Blu-ray trailer here.

Thor (available in 2D or 3D)

Legendary god of thunder Thor sure didn’t disappoint when he touched down on BD last year. Chris Hemsworth stars as the fallen son of a mythical kingdom who finds love with a mortal (Natalie Portman) on Earth. Yet when his new life is threatened by a deadly force from his former home, Thor must regain his godly powers to save mankind. Special features on the Blu-ray include extensive insight from director Kenneth Branagh as well as all the stars, deleted scenes, a look at the set and costume design alongside an exclusive special feature that goes deeper into the Marvel Universe.

The Incredible Hulk

Edward Norton takes on the role of Bruce Banner in the 2008 outing – a role which now belongs to Mark Ruffalo in the upcoming Avengers movie. Banner (Norton) is a haunted scientist, trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions run high. However when the army threaten the lives of those he loves he gets angry… and we think you can guess what happens next! An incredible array of bonus materials await fans on the Blu-ray, including commentary tracks, deleted scenes, character profiles, special effects, stunts as well as a look at how scenes in the film were influenced by the original comics and much more.
