Blu-rays for the Weekend: Suicide Squad

This weekend, the much-anticipated Suicide Squad hits silver screens across the UK. It features an all-star cast, including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delvingne, Jai Courtney and Ben Affleck.

The film follows a group of imprisoned supervillains – including Deadshot, Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang – as they are recruited by a secretive government agency to fight a mysterious and powerful entity, in return for shortened sentences. Can the villains unite to save humanity, or will the antics of The Joker bring them all down?

To get you in the mood for Suicide Squad, we’ve collected our three favourite anti-hero movies available on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray;

Hancockhancock

Suicide Squad star Will Smith also appears in this film about down-and-out superhero Hancock, who is better known for his bad attitude and alcoholism than he is for saving the world.

The unwilling superhero soon finds himself the centre of attention after he saves the life of a PR professional, who decides it’s time for Hancock to change his image. This means less destruction, drinking and downright rudeness, and more superhero-like behaviour.

Special features include a look behind the scenes, interviews with the cast and crew, and a documentary about the film’s impressive special effects.

Ryan Reynolds stars as former Special Forces operative Wade Wilson, who lives his days out as muscle-for-hire. After being subjected to a tortuous experiment which leaves him with accelerated healing powers, he adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

Based on the Marvel comic of the same name, Deadpool sets about bringing his own hilarious brand of justice to the man who very nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool ships with a whole heap of special features, including a hilarious gag reel, commentaries, deleted and extended scenes, stills galleries and more!

Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road is the latest Oscar-winning instalment in the Mad Max franchise, as anti-hero Max Rockatansky returns for more high-octane action.mad max

Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron star, as Max is captured by a gang of outlaws and used as a living blood donor. The leader of the outlaws – Immortan Joe – is enraged after one of his lieutenants flees the citadel, freeing five of his wives from captivity. He then launches a wild chase across the desert – with Max strapped to the front of a terrifying death machine – to reclaim what he believes is rightfully his.

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the most striking films, and looks stunning in both Blu-ray, and the new format, Ultra HD Blu-ray. Both come with over an hour of special features, including a behind the scenes look at the production of the film, a feature examining the crazy stunts, and interviews with the cast and crew.
