This weekend, the long-awaited addition to the Resident Evil film franchise, The Final Chapter, hits the big screens in the UK.
The film picks up in the weeks after the events of Resident Evil: Retribution, and shows how humanity is on its last legs following the deadly T-Virus which caused a devastating zombie apocalypse.
To get you in the mood for The Final Chapter, we’ve put together our three favourite zombie-filled Blu-rays.
28 Days Later
Director Danny Boyle directs this terrifyingly realistic zombie flick set in London.
Cillian Murphy stars as Jim, who wakes up in hospital completely alone, with no signs of any other humans. Realising something is very wrong, he explores London in an attempt to find help. However, what he finds is a horde of fast-moving zombies, intent on having him for dinner. Jim eventually finds another two survivors, who join him on the quest for safety.
Special features include audio commentary by Danny Boyle, a great making-of documentary, deleted scenes and much more.
Shaun of the Dead
For some light relief, join Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Shaun of the Dead, 2004’s antidote to the zombie genre.
Shaun of the Dead follows Shaun and Ed, two thirtysomething losers living in a flat in the outskirts of London. After creating a plan to get his ex girlfriend back, Shaun sets off, but finds himself walking right into the middle of a zombie outbreak. Determined to save those around him, Shaun and Ed head out on a dangerous journey with intention of saving everyone, then going to the Winchester for a pint while it all blows over. Of course, like most plans, it doesn’t go exactly as intended…
The Blu-ray comes with a horde of special features, including a number of audio commentaries, a look at the fictional TV shows which appear in the film, storyboard galleries and more.
World War Z
Based on the best-selling novel by Max Brooks, World War Z takes a global perspective on the traditional zombie story It follows former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) as he urgently sets out on a deadly mission to investigate the cause of a zombie pandemic devastating the Earth. Doctor), as well as spectacular special effects, you won’t want to miss this.
