With Django Unchained set to rock the box office later this year, we’re taking a look at the best of writer/director Quentin Tarantino’s work on Blu-ray so far. So if you’re stuck for something to watch this weekend, why not try out one of the following:
Perhaps Tarantino’s best known film, this tour-de-force is a brilliant example of his skills as both a director and screenwriter. Famed for its rich dialogue, stylised filming and ironic mix of humour and violence, Pulp Fiction follows the intersecting lives of LA’s mobsters and small-time criminals. Headed up by low-rent hit men Vincent (John Travolta) and Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) in roles that revived their careers, Pulp Fiction also showcases great performances from Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis and Tim Roth. Special features include retrospective interviews with the cast and crew and a look at the film’s impact with contributions from major film critics. It also includes features on the production design and awards it has garnered as well as a segment dedicated to Tarantino and his influence.
Kill Bill 1 & 2 Box set
With both Blu-rays awarded 5/5* for visual and audio quality by Blu-ray.com, this box set packs a serious punch. The high-kicking action flicks star an ensemble cast of Hollywood greats, headed up by heroine Uma Thurman as The Bride. Gunned down on her wedding day, the pregnant heroine seeks revenge against her former allies and isn’t afraid to spill a little blood as she battles her way to the door of her former boss Bill (David Carradine). Extras include documentaries providing great insights into the production and musical sequences from the bands featured on the soundtrack.
Reservoir Dogs
Critically acclaimed for its raw power and breathtaking ferocity, this gangster movie is a classic from Tarantino and a must have for fans of his work. A band of criminal masterminds join forces to pull off the perfect crime. But when their plan goes drastically wrong, the ruthless killers realise one of their group is actually a police informer, but who? Starring Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen and Steve Buscemi, this daring thriller is bound to have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Special features on the Blu-ray Disc include documentaries Playing It Fast and Loose and Profiling the Reservoir Dogs, which champions the film’s influence on modern cinema. It also includes Pulp Factoids Viewer which offers insider information about the film and its sources.
