Blu-rays for the Weekend: It’s Christmas!

With the festive season at last upon us, we’ve gathered together a few family friendly Blu-rays that truly capture the magic of Christmas. So this holiday, why not batten down the hatches and take a look at some of these Christmas crackers.

Rise of the Guardians

A perfect movie to keep the kids busy this Christmas, Rise of the Guardians is a fun-filled animated adventure about the legendary guardians—Santa Claus, Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Sandman. When an evil villain threatens to take over the world, it’s up to our beloved heroes to protect the hopes and dreams of children everywhere. Filled with non-stop action and laughs, it also includes a wide array of Blu-ray exclusive special features including interactive games, an interview with creative producer William Joyce and commentary from director Peter Ramsey.

A Christmas movie that is sure to have the whole family in stitches, adults and kids alike will fall in love with Will Ferrell’s side-splitting performance as Buddy the Elf. An innocent stowaway transported as a baby by accident to Santa’s North Pole village, Buddy takes the opportunity to return to New York and re-kindle his relationship with his dad (James Cann). Cue hilarious festive shenanigans and loveable family fun that has made Elf a bona-fide modern Christmas classic. Special features include a trivia track, production featurettes and deleted scenes.

A Christmas Carol

Breathing new life into this classic Dickens tale about the Christmas spirit, Robert Zemeckis’ movie sees a motion-captured Jim Carrey appear as the tight-fisted humbug Ebenezer Scrooge. As the 25th December approaches, Scrooge must embark upon a magical journey of self-discovery guided by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Available on Blu-ray 3D, the film comes with an array of enchanting extras including a picture-in-picture supplement, so you can compare the on-stage motion capture performances with the finished original.
