Tom Hanks returns as Robert Langdon, the world’s coolest (or unluckiest, depending on your perspective) university lecturer in Inferno, the sequel to The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, the bestsellers written by Dan Brown.
In the latest instalment in the franchise, Langdon awakes in a hospital in Florence, with no memory of how he got there. Before long, he finds himself in the middle of another major manhunt, and must use his knowledge of symbology to once again help get him out of danger.
To get you in the mood for Inferno, we’ve listed our three favourite Blu-rays also by director Ron Howard.
The Da Vinci Code
Arguably the most famous of the Robert Langdon thrillers, The Da Vinci Code sees Tom Hanks’ debut as the Harvard professor.
In The Da Vinci Code, we meet Robert Langdon, who is summoned to Paris after the curator of the Louvre is found dead at work. While he initially thinks he is assisting the investigation, it soon turns out that the police intend on fingering him for the crime. Escaping custody with the aid of a police cryptologist, Langdon begins a journey across Europe in the hope of finding the legendary Holy Grail, while at the same time clearing his name, and bringing those responsible to justice.
The Blu-ray comes with a number of special features, including production featurettes, a preview of the sequel (Angels & Demons) and audio commentary from Ron Howard.
Rush
Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl star in this epic true story about the fierce rivalry between two racing drivers in the 1970s.
James Hunt – a British playboy with an erratic yet brilliant style – was famous for his stiff competition with Niki Lauda, a methodical and disciplined Austrian driver. When tempers boil over both on and off the track, it soon becomes obvious that the feud is about much more than who wins and who loses.
Special features include a 30-minute making-of documentary, featurettes about the real story behind Rush, and a whole host of deleted scenes.
Apollo 13
Another true story tackled by Ron Howard, Apollo 13 documents how three astronauts survive in space following a catastrophic disaster.
Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton star as astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise, who find themselves living in a small, powerless capsule in space after disaster strikes during a routine procedure. The three must work together to overcome their situation, and find a way to return to Earth safely.
A special 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray was released in May this year, featuring some exclusive HD content, including a short documentary which looks back at the making of the film.
