Blu-rays for the Weekend: I ain’t afraid of no ghost

After countless attempts to bring the Ghostbusters franchise back to the big screen after 1989’s Ghostbusters II, this week finally sees four new scientific heroes suit up to save the world from a new paranormal threat.

But before you go and see director Paul Feig’s (Bridesmaids, Spy) reboot, why not warm up with one of these Blu-rays:

The classic original Ghostbusters is available in a double pack with its sequel. The movie took some of America’s funniest talent (Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis) and created one of the most well-loved blockbuster movies of all time. With so many quotable lines and classic characters, Ghostbusters will go down in history as an all-time classic. Will this year’s reboot fare so well? Only time will tell.

The late Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore star in the classic paranormal romance that’s gone on to spawn a west end musical and inspired many ill-advised attempts at pottery. The film still packs a punch on Blu-ray, so if you prefer your ghost stories to be a bit more romantic, this is the movie for you.

The Sixth SenseThe Sixth Sense

Even if you’ve never seen the movie, chances are you’ve heard this chilling line from the script: “I see dead people.” The movie that catapulted director M Night Shyamalan and child star Haley Joel Osment to stardom is a true modern classic, with an unforgettable twist. To say much more would stray into spoiler territory, so we’ll just say that if you haven’t seen The Sixth Sense, you’re missing a ghostly treat.
