Blu-rays for the Weekend: High School Movies

With the American Pie Reunion trailer hitting the web last week, we thought we’d take a look at the very best high school movies available on Blu-ray. So if you’re stuck for ideas this weekend, why not try out one of the following:

It’s worth remembering high school isn’t just about kids! Teachers have lives too but we’re pretty sure none come more interesting as this one. Cameron Diaz stars as Elizabeth Hasley a wildly inappropriate high school teacher who ruthlessly pursues new member of staff Scott (played by Justin Timberlake). Offering theatrical and unrated versions for viewers to choose from, the Double Play pack includes deleted scenes, side splittingly funny outtakes and numerous features such as ‘Way Behind The Scenes’ in which Diaz and Timberlake give fans the low down on filming.

Jennifer’s Body

For those looking for more bite from their high school movies, Jennifer’s Body could prove just the tonic. From the writer of Juno comes a devilishly funny high school horror flick which sees leading ladies Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried gripped by a demonic curse that changes their lives forever. Extras include audio commentaries from director Karyn Kusama and writer Diablo Cody, which explore the film’s characters and themes as well as shedding light on creative choices and the female perspective on horror as a genre. Also included are a gag reel, deleted scenes, interviews with the cast and a feature in which three film students interview Cody on her career trajectory and the process of writing Jennifer’s Body.

High School Musical

Disney’s phenomenally popular High School Musical charts the romance between basketball captain Troy (Zac Efron) and stunning academic Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens). Described as a modern day Grease, viewers young and old will be left fighting back the urge to sing and dance along to the movie which packs serious high school spirit punch. Extras include a sing-along version of the film, a masterclass on the dance moves for the various musical numbers, a look at the Hollywood premiere as well as features Bringing It All Together and A High School Musical Reunion, which detail the experiences of the case and crew on set.
