Blu-rays for the Weekend – Captain America: Civil War

This weekend, the hotly-anticipated Captain America: Civil War lands in cinemas, kicking off Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film features a stellar cast, with many familiar faces, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd and Anthony Mackie.

It picks up after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, as the Avengers are caught up in another international incident, which prompts politicians to create a governing body to oversee their actions. This leads to a split, with half the Avengers supporting oversight, while the rest fight for independence. While the two sides battle it out, a new enemy threatens the world…

To get you in the mood for the latest Marvel adventure, we’ve pulled together our three favourite Blu-rays with great ensemble casts:

The DepartedThe Departed

The Departed features a tour de force of a cast, including Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo Di Caprio, Mark Wahlberg and Ray Winstone.

It follows the story of the South Boston Irish-American mob, who install a mole in the State Police. However, unbeknownst to them, the police have had exactly the same idea, installing an undercover officer into the mob’s operation.

The Blu-ray comes packed with special features, including a twenty-minute documentary on Whitey Bulger, the real-life mobster that inspired Nicholson’s character, deleted scenes and a look at Scorsese’s other gangster films.

Ocean’s ElevenOcean’s Eleven

An all-star cast feature in this remake of the 1960’s classic. Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Bernie Mac, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts among others, this film is a must-watch for Hollywood buffs.

The film tells the story of a crew of bank robbers, who plot to still millions from three of Las Vegas’s  top casinos. Following the success of the film, two sequels were made, and all three are available as a Blu-ray boxset. It also comes with a number of bonus extras, including making-of documentaries of all three movies, a look at the original Ocean’s Eleven and a feature on the technology used in the heists.

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is not only one of the most visually striking films to be released in recent years, it also features one of the biggest and best casts. Names include Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and of course, the late Heath Ledger. The Dark Knight

In this superhero instalment, Batman faces perhaps one of his most famous adversaries: The Joker. Creating chaos all over Gotham City, Batman must work with Lieutenant James Gordon and the new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to stop The Joker before it’s too late. All while the caped crusader battles with his personal demons.

The Dark Knight looks incredible on Blu-ray. From the bleakness of Gotham City to the roar of the Batman’s Batmobile, everything is enhanced in glorious high definition. The two-disc Blu-ray edition also includes previously unseen special features, including behind the scenes, an in-depth look at the gadgets, and production stills.
