Blu-rays for the Weekend: Best of Angelina Jolie

It’s a good time to be Angelina Jolie. She has just jetted off to Australia to start filming her second movie as a director, and her film about the evil fairy godmother Maleficent is getting a lot of buzz ahead of its release next year. So we thought this weekend was the perfect opportunity to take a look at some of her top movie performances, all available in high definition on Blu-ray.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Jolie became a household name after her stint as Lara Croft, the heroine of the video game classic, Tomb Raider. Lady Lara is an adventuress and explorer, who’s commissioned to hunt out the Clock of Ages and save the fate of mankind. The Blu-ray is jam-packed with features and includes a director’s commentary which looks at how Jolie worked to bring Lara to life, deleted scenes and some pieces on bringing the video game to life.

Mr and Mrs Smith

Starring in the titular role of Mrs Smith, Jolie first met her husband Brad Pitt on set for this action-comedy. The film follows the seemingly suburban couple John and Jane Smith, who just so happen to be two of the world’s most infamous assassins. Their identities are a secret, even from each other – but when they find out, there’s trouble in store. The explosive Blu-ray features a director’s commentary, as well as deleted scenes and a featurette on how the incredible action sequences were pieced together.

For those of you wanting to take the action down a peg or two, why not check out Jolie’s Oscar-nominated performance as Christine Collins in the touching movie Changeling. Directed by Clint Eastwood, this emotional movie set in 1920’s LA follows Collins’ journey to bring down a corrupt police force and deal with the disappearance of her son. Based on true events, the Blu-ray special features explore the backdrop of the movie in feature Los Angeles: Then and Now, as well as providing fans with picture-in-picture cast and crew interviews, a look at the partnership between Eastwood and Jolie, and her transformation from one of the world’s most recognised faces into a 1920’s housewife.
