Directed by the Sixth Sense’s M Night Shyamalan, After Earth begins with a crash landing on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events that forced humanity to abandon the planet, which leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his father General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) stranded. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help so they can return to humanity’s new home Nova Prime, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. The father and son must learn to work together and learn to trust one another if they want any chance of escaping Earth and returning home.

After Earth is the second time Will Smith has starred alongside his son, following the 2006 hit Pursuit of Happyness. So this week, we’d like to find out who your favourite screen dad is and why. Did Viggo Mortensen move you with his desperate performance in The Road? Is Marlin the clownfish from Finding Nemo the ultimate example of a caring father? What about the bad guys – like Marlon Brando’s Godfather or Jack Nicholson’s terrifying performance in The Shining? With so many examples to choose from, we’re looking forward to a wide range of suggestions!
As ever, remember to leave your Twitter details with your comment. Good luck!
