Fans of the Doctor are in for a special treat later this summer when Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space hits Blu-ray in a special edition package. The classic episode, featuring the debut of Jon Pertwee as the Doctor, is set for release on July 15.
The four-episode arc aired originally in January 1970. It was the first Doctor Who adventure to appear in colour, and also the only one from the era to be shot on 16mm film, meaning it can be remastered into full HD. With Caroline John as assistant Liz Shaw and Nicholas Courtney as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart starring alongside Pertwee, the plot sees the Doctor face off against the alien beings Autons.
Extra features on the disc will include a comparison of the original broadcast with its HD makeover, and documentaries on stars Jon Pertwee and Caroline John.
