The Cannes film festival ended earlier this week, so we thought in honour of the occasion we would take a look at some of the biggest movies to premiere at the festival in recent years, all available to enjoy now in high definition on Blu-ray.
Moonrise Kingdom
Moonrise Kingdom was one of the biggest hits to premiere at Cannes last year, and with an all-star cast including Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Jason Schwartzman, it’s easy to see why. The romantic comedy-drama, set in the 1960s, focuses on a young boy and girl who fall in love with each other and flee their idyllic New England town together. However, when they are discovered missing, the town they left behind is turned upside down and a search party is put together to find them. The Blu-ray edition includes an array of high-definition featurettes including a behind-the-scenes look at Moonrise Kingdom, a series of guided tours from the film’s locations and a set tour with Bill Murray.
Lawlesss
Another hit at Cannes last year was Lawless. Set in rural Virginia during the Prohibition era, Lawless is the true story of the Bondurant brothers, who set up as bootleggers but soon find themselves under threat from the authorities who want to cut off their profits. Lawless, starring Tom Hardy, Shia LeBeouf, Jessica Chastain and Gary Oldman, is a modern take on the classic gangster movie and showcases how the American dream was beginning to go wrong before it even existed. The Blu-ray version will include deleted scenes as well as some in-depth featurettes on the history of the prohibition period and rural Virginia.
Robin Hood
The most recent adaptation of Robin Hood premiered at Cannes in 2010. In Ridley Scott’s gritty adaptation of the man behind the myth, Robin returns from the crusades a heroic warrior but soon finds the order of his homeland has been uprooted forcing him to lead an uprising against a weak and corrupt ruler. Fans of Russell Crowe can look forward to mighty battle scenes, awesome sword fights and a touching romance in this action packed adventure. Extras include an extended cut of the film, deleted scenes and features such as The Art of Nottingham and Rise & Rise Again: The Making of Ridley Scott’s Robin.
