Walt Disney Home Entertainment has officially announced that the fantastical adventure Oz, The Great and Powerful will be available to buy on Blu-ray from July 1st.
How did Oz get its wizard? That’s the question Oz: The Great and Powerful sets out to answer. The movie opens in Kansas as Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a philanderer and second rate circus wizard, is swept away in his hot air balloon by a tornado to the topsy-turvy world of Oz. After a bumpy crash landing Oscar encounters three witches; Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who aren’t convinced he’s the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.
Director Sam Raimi creates a technicolour wonderland which is bought vividly to life through CGI and 3D. The Blu-ray version will be available in both 2D and 3D and will feature a range of extras including access to an immersive app that details all things Oz, including an interactive map full of secrets and surprises. In addition there are some fantastical featurettes including a look into the special effects behind creating the world, taking viewers through set design, makeup design and the music behind the movie.
