British director Danny Boyle hit new heights last year when his stunning Olympic Opening Ceremony was watched by millions across the globe. And with his latest film, Trance, in cinemas now, we thought this weekend you could beat the gloomy weather by staying in and checking out some of his most acclaimed movies, all available on high-definition Blu-ray.
Trainspotting: Ultimate Collector’s Edition
Danny Boyle’s legendary adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s classic novel Trainspotting stars Ewan MacGregor and Robert Carlyle. Released in 1996, but set in the late 1980s, the story follows four hapless drug addicts in the emergence of a post-Thatcher Britain. The Blu-ray version includes some retrospective featurettes focusing on the cultural significance of the movie, including Memories of Trainspotting, which sees Boyle and key cast members reflect on the movie which shot them to stardom.
Slumdog Millionaire
Danny Boyle’s Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of an Indian boy raised in the slums who makes it to the final round of the TV show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’, despite all the odds and prejudices he faces. This feel-good film hits all the right buttons in an uplifting and engaging narrative.
The high-definition Blu-ray edition of the film captures Danny Boyle’s award winning directorial efforts in stunning clarity. The Blu-ray disc is also packed with deleted scenes and additional features, including feature commentaries with Boyle, actor Dev Patel, producer Christian Colson and writer Simon Beaufoy, and a featurette called Slumdog Dreams: Danny Boyle & The Making of Slumdog Millionaire.
28 Days Later
Breathing new life into the zombie genre, Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later is seen by many as the poster child of modern zombie movies. Set in a post-apocalyptic England where a virus has decimated life in only 28 days, the film follows Jim (Cillian Murphy) as he adjusts to new terrains strewn with monsters. The Blu-ray includes a number of impressive extras such as informative commentaries for fans interested in the technical aspects of the film, alongside behind-the-scenes insights into make-up, set design, shooting locations and interviews with cast and crew.
