Following accolades at the Oscars and BAFTAs, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln is on its way to Blu-ray later this year. While we wait for a European release date to be confirmed, special features for the film have been announced.
Daniel Day-Lewis received a record-breaking third Oscar and much critical acclaim for his portrayal of the legendary leader Abraham Lincoln, at a time when he sat on the precipice of seismic historical changes. Looking at the incendiary final four months of Lincoln’s presidency, the movie opens as the historic leader is faced with a momentous choice: should he end the bloody civil war, one of the most divisive in modern history, by settling for a compromise with the Confederate enemy? Or should he make a final attempt to persuade the House of Representatives to reverse an earlier decision to abolish slavery?
The Blu-ray special features include unique insights into the filming of one of the key political moments in America’s history – including Crafting The Past, a feature examining the recreation of Lincoln’s era through authentic period details in production design, costume and makeup, and A Historic Tapestry: Richmond, Virginia where Steven Spielberg and the team discuss the historical significance of the town. The disc will also include The Company Of Character, where enthusiasts can delve into Daniel Day-Lewis’ already legendary portrayal of Lincoln, and other featurettes on the editing and sound design of the film.
