People Like Us, starring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks, hits the big screen today, telling the story of an estranged family struggling to reconcile their differences. Here at Blu-ray Disc Reporter, we thought we’d share some Chris Pine and Elizabeth Bank film suggestions for you this weekend.
Star Trek
Arguably the role Chris Pine is best known for, J. J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot of the Star Trek films saw Pine fill the shoes of William Shatner as James T. Kirk.
When a Romulan ship travels back in time through a wormhole after witnessing the destruction of their home planet, the course of history is changed forever. The bitter Romulan, Nero (Eric Bana), declares war on the Federation and attacks the planet Vulcan, forcing Starfleet to press its cadets (including Kirk) into action. With the fate of the Vulcans and the Federation on the line, can Kirk and Spock overcome their fundamental differences to work together and form a friendship that will come to define them?
The film looks absolutely stunning on high-definition Blu-ray and is packed with special features. A must have for anyone who likes Sci-fi, not just for the Trekkies.
Hunger Games
Based on the first novel in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling series, The Hunger Games follows the story of Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence. Katniss must compete in a televised fight to the death against 23 other teenagers to win not only her survival, but fame and fortune as the victor. But with her childhood friend and budding love-interest Peeta also competing, can Katniss possibly win? Elizabeth Banks stars as the upbeat District 12 escort for Katniss and Peeta in this futuristic action adventure.
With over three hours of bonus material including making of documentaries and behind the scenes features, this is a Blu-ray not to be missed.
The 40 Year-Old Virgin
This unmissable Steve Carrell comedy follows the story of Andy, the unintentionally celibate main character. Despite being a bit of a loner, his colleagues take a liking to the somewhat childlike Andy and resolve to help him find a girlfriend. Along the way, Andy meets Beth (Elizabeth Banks) a book store clerk who takes a liking to him and Trish (Catherine Keener) a store owner across the street, forcing Andy to make some difficult decisions.
Full of gags and hilarious moments, this is a warm-hearted film which looks great on Blu-ray and would be a fine addition to any film collection.
