Today sees the third part of the popular Madagascar series hit the big screens, with all-star case of animated animals still trying to get back home to New York City after escaping to Madagascar. To mark its release, why not watch these computer-animated classics on Blu-ray this weekend?
Toy Story
Any list of computer animated films has to include Pixar’s Toy Story, the first feature length film in the genre. But aside from being a landmark in technical achievement, it’s also a great film!
Toy Story focuses on the activities of a group of toys led by Woody, a pull-string cowboy (Tom Hanks) who comes to life when humans aren’t around. As his owner Andy’s favourite, Woody is put-out when the new Buzz Lightyear toy (Tim Allen) arrives as a birthday present and takes his place as top dog. Jealous of the attention that Buzz receives, Woody plans to win Andy back but the plan backfires dramatically when his actions lead to Buzz going missing. But can Woody win back the trust of his fellow toys and rescue Buzz before Andy moves house?
This is a classic film which absolutely sparkles on high-definition Blu-ray.
Madagascar
The original Madagascar focuses on a group of animals, Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock) and Gloria the hippopotamus (Jada Pinkett Smith), at the Central Park Zoo in New York, keen to explore the world outside the confines of the zoo. After escaping with the help of some mischievous penguins, the gang is captured and end up washed up on the shores of Madagascar. But how will they cope in a strange land after years separated from their natural habitats?
This hilarious adventure is great entertainment for the whole family, with an A-list cast offering something for everyone.
Up
Up tells the story of thwarted traveller Carl Fredricksen, a curmudgeonly 78-year old who by a strange twist of fate finds himself on the adventure of a lifetime with young boy-scout Russell, after escaping his day-to-day life by attaching hundreds of balloons to his house. Whisked off to a remote island by the air currents, Carl and Russell find themselves on a thrilling jungle adventure which gives Carl a new lease of life and realises his dreams.
Hilarious, surprisingly moving and utterly memorable, Up is a gorgeous film which absolutely stuns and delights in high definition.
