Following on from last Friday’s post, here is the second half of The Blu-ray Disc Association’s best of Blu-ray 3D titles to take advantage of your new 3DTV.
Hugo 3D (Paramount)
Martin Scorsese’s family adventure follows the story of twelve-year-old Hugo (Asa Butterfield) who lives inside the walls of a Parisian train station in the 1930s. His very survival depends on anonymity, but when the enchanting Isabelle (Chloë Moretz) comes into his life, it quickly takes a dramatic twist and soon his most closely guarded secret is put at risk. Winning five Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards including best Visual Effects, Art Direction and Cinematography, Hugo is the perfect Blu-ray to experience in high definition 3D.
The Green Lantern 3D (Warner Bros)
The Green Lantern Corps are a brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order. When a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, the fate of Earth lies in the hands of new recruit Hal Jordan, the first human ever selected. Starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Casino Royale’s Martin Campbell, this adaptation of the DC comic is one sci-fi adventure that you won’t want to miss. The vast and mysterious universe that the film is set in looks fantastic in high-def 3D, as does the incredible superpowers of the Green Lantern Corps.
Drive Angry 3D (Lionsgate)
Roaring into a third dimension, Drive Angry sees Nicolas Cage star as Milton, a ghost who escapes from hell to save his granddaughter with the help of beautiful sidekick Piper, played by the stunning Amber Heard. Packed with adrenalin fuelled bonus materials and rip-roaring action sequences, fans can expect a BD experience like no other thanks to the ‘Full-Access’ bonus feature, enabling viewers to access behind-the-scenes interviews at key points during the film.
Priest 3D (Sony Pictures)
Based on the acclaimed graphic novel, Priest brings bloodthirsty 3D action to Blu-ray. Starring Paul Bettany as a warrior priest, this post-apocalyptic tale tells of a savage war between man and vampires. After his niece is kidnapped, Bettany’s priest must break his vow of peace and hunt down the vampire hive before it’s too late. In addition to the 3D presentation of the film, the Blu-ray also includes an exclusive picture-in-picture experience and 3D views of the film’s weaponry.
Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (Lionsgate)
The seventh and final instalment in the terrifying Saw series sees Bobby (Sean Patrick Flanery) battle to overcome a series of gruesome obstacles in a bid to rescue his wife – only this time, Jigsaw’s infamous traps are in terrifying 3D. Special features include a look at all the slicing and dicing in the franchise as all 52 traps are explored, alongside audio commentaries, deleted and extended scenes and bookmark functionality.
Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Film Trilogy 3D (Universal)
This trilogy reveals the secrets of the ocean in stunning high definition 3D. Narrated by Jan Michel Cousteau, son of legendary ocean explorer and film-maker Jacques Cousteau, it contains three fascinating documentaries – Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean, Sharks 3D and Ocean Wonderland 3D.
Flying Monsters 3D (Atlantic Productions)
Did Flying monsters really ever exist? 220 million years ago dinosaurs were beginning their domination of Earth but another group of reptiles was about to make an extraordinary leap: pterosaurs were taking control of the skies. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, this fascinating documentary on Blu-ray lets you follow the story of how and why these mysterious creatures took to the air – all in stunning 3D.
