Critics and audiences around the world can’t seem to get enough of The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble in the UK) – so the good news is that director Joss Whedon has announced that an extra 30 minutes of deleted scenes will appear on the Blu-ray Disc release.
The record-breaking superhero team-up movie, the stuff of dreams for many a comic book fan, is currently number one at box offices all over the globe. It’s been widely praised for its well-balanced combination of some of Marvel’s most famous superheroes: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury. Fans eager to see more of the team bickering, fighting and learning to work together will be delighted to hear that about 30 minutes of cut footage, said to focus particularly on Captain America as he adjusts to life in the 21st century, is set to appear on the Blu-ray.
A release is still a long way off, but it’s certainly enough to whet our appetites for what will surely be one of 2012’s biggest Blu-rays. We’ll post more information as and when it appears. You can watch Collider’s interview with Joss Whedon, where he discusses the deleted scenes, here.
