This week we’ve put together a special Blu-rays for the Weekend for you, looking purely at what reviewers have had to say about one of the most highly anticipated Blu-ray releases of all time, Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) Collection. So has it lived up to the hype? Are the extras all they were promised and more? If you’re curious, keep reading to find out what a number of the UK’s top technology sites have made of the mammoth release.
When it comes to sound and audio quality, fans of the franchise and fans of the BD format itself were expecting nothing less than a flawless performance, and it appears Lucasfilms have hit the nail on the head with this one. Metro comments that the collection ‘makes an eloquent argument for high-definition home cinema’ and note ‘R2-D2’s every beep blasts from 6.1 digital surround sound with stunning clarity’. AV experts Home Cinema Choice are also very impressed, calling the 6.1 surround sound audio ‘a truly remarkable feat’.
Den of Geek also ladle on complements with the reviewer stating, ‘I’m pleased to say the picture and sound quality throughout is fantastic. I had high expectations going in, but I wasn’t prepared for just how good it ended up being… there’s a clarity to the image that is startling at first’.
High praise indeed, but what about the mountains of extras? Well Den of Geek has good things to say about those too pointing out Star Warriors as one of its highlights. ‘One of my favourite points was where Darth Vader’s diet was being discussed, and it was decided that his liquid diet would cause gastro intestinal complications. You never really consider such things causing problems for one of the most iconic villains in the history of cinema.’
So, if you’ve purchased the box set, what are your thoughts on it? Hit the comments to tell us about your favourite movie in the collection, or what extras you’ve found most enlightening or alternatively what else you’ll be looking forward to watching on Blu-ray this weekend.
