This week we’re focusing on sport movies, as we expect Japan’s national women’s football team are still celebrating after their World Cup win last weekend. So if you’re stuck for ideas, why not try out one of the following:
What better way to celebrate the Women’s World Cup than with Bend it like Beckham?
Providing a light-hearted look at cultural clashes, independence and the competitive world of female football, Bend it like Beckham serves up good humour, drama and romance in equal measure. Considered by many as Keira Knightley’s break out role, director Gurinder Chaddha provides an in-depth commentary on all aspects of the film from casting to writing the brilliant script. Other special BD features include 10 deleted scenes and a making of documentary.
Invictus
If you’re looking for a compelling drama with a heavy sports angle, Invictus tells the inspiring story of Nelson Mandela’s pact with South Africa’s rugby team captain. Starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, the BD features a number of insightful documentaries including ‘Mandela Meets Morgan’ and ‘Vision, Courage and Honour’ in which director Clint Eastwood provides an impressive exploration of both the history behind the film and the film itself.
Dodgeball
However if you’re looking for some off-the-wall comedy why not try out Dodgeball? Pitted against each other in a winner-takes-all contest, Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller battle it out in this over-the-top underdog tale where Dodgeball is the sport of champions. The BD also features deleted and extended scenes, a hilarious gag reel and audio commentary with Stiller and Vaughn that only adds to the comedy value of the film as a whole.
So what do you think of our choices? Let us know or tell us what you’ll be looking forward to watching on Blu-ray this weekend.
