Pitched at the top end of the Blu-ray player market, Onkyo’s new BD-SP809 model was recently given top marks in a review by TechDigest. Praising the player’s excellent sound and picture up-scaling technology, TechDigest also highlights the number of high-end features on offer, saying that it will leave wannabe owners ‘looking under the sofa for every penny you can find to nab it.’
On testing, they also agree with Onkyo’s claims that the BD-SP809 can get the best out of even the most elderly of DVD’s. Thanks to its impressive up-scaling technology and noise reduction function, the BD-SP809 lives up to the hype of its manufacturers:
‘It plays nicely with all types of Blu-ray, DVD and CD discs… Audio is equally well served, with both DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD lossless audio formats supported, as well as separate video and audio circuitry being employed to reduce digital noise issues.’
Onkyo’s BD-SP809 will set you back £499.99, but it’s a formidable contender built with audiophiles as well as film lovers in mind.
