Director Rob Letterman recently revealed filming Gulliver’s Travels was no tall order in an interview with Collider.com. Ahead of its release on Blu-ray Disc throughout Europe on 16th May, Letterman discussed his big screen adaptation of the fairytale adventure starring Jack Black, and gave fans a sneak peak of what to expect when the BD hits shores next month.
Letterman detailed a couple of the special features viewers can look forward to including a multitude of scenes which failed to make the final cut:
“There’s 90 minutes of extra footage… I personally worked on the deleted scenes. They’re near and dear to my heart, but they just couldn’t fit into the movie, so it’s a great chance for them to live on… It was really fun to go back and relive those moments, and not have to worry about how to weave those scenes into the overall story.”
Letterman also touched upon the approach for compiling extras for the BD release:
“There’s a whole team of people who are just there, gathering as much as they could… We saved every little scrap we had… It’s like buying a toy. I’ll watch movies 100 times, but you want to have something on there beyond just the movie, so that you can keep exploring the disc.”
For those unfamiliar with this epic tale of minute proportions, Gulliver’s Travels tells the story of Lemuel Gulliver (played by Black) who sets out to find adventure across the seas. However when a ferocious storm engulfs his boat Gulliver washes up on the fantasy island of Lilliput, occupied by a population of pin-sized people.
